The way to Replace a Spark Module in a Stove

Newer gas stove surface burners utilize an electronic ignition rather than a pilot light. Burner ignition occurs when the spark module generates enough electric current to make an arc. Based on the make, model and style of the gas stove, you can find the spark module under the stovetop or behind a panel across the rear of the appliance. Consider replacing the spark module as soon as your burners fail to light always.

Drop-In Gas Stove Top

Look inside the cabinets directly below or to either side of the drop-in stovetop to discover the gas valve handle. Turn it perpendicular to the gas line to put it at the “off” position. Unplug the stovetop’s power cord from the socket to disconnect the digital controls.

Pull the burner control knobs in the stovetop. Eliminate the burner grates and caps from the cooker.

Remove the screws which hold the burner bases to the stovetop and pull the bases off the stove. Lift off the stovetop to expose the spark module.

Take a digital image of the wire placement in the spark module. Alternatively, mark the wires to assure their correct placement in the new module. Pull the wires from the spark module connectors with your hands.

Remove the screws holding the spark module to the stovetop. Discard the module and then put in a new module in its own place. Use the screws in the first module to secure the new one to the cooker.

Refer to the image or your markings to connect the wires to the new spark module. Replace the stovetop. Reinstall the burner bases and caps. Replace the burner grates and control pins.

Slide the stovetop back into the socket. Expand the gas supply valve handle until the handle is parallel with the gas line. Turn on a burner to check the new module.

Free-Standing Gas Stove

Pull the gas stove away from the wall to access the back of the appliance. Unplug the stove in the wall socket to disconnect the digital controls. Expand the gas valve handle to the “off” position.

Remove the screws holding the rear panel to the stove. Eliminate the panel to expose the spark module.

Find the spark module attached to the left or right of the cooker body. Have a picture of the wire placement in the module. Otherwise, mark the wires to assure their correct placement in the new module.

Pull the wires from the spark module terminals. Remove the screws in the module to publish it. Some stoves may have modules that snap into the cooker bodies; utilize a flat-head screwdriver to pry a snap-in module in the cooker.

Install a new spark module. Secure it with the first mounting screws if applicable.

Refer to your image or markings for wire placement and push the wires onto the new spark module terminals. Replace the rear panel and fasten the panel with the screws you previously eliminated.

Turn the gas valve to the “on” position. Plug the power cord into the wall socket. Push the gas stove back into its original location.
